We’ve decided that perhaps, after all these years, we’re finally becoming responsible adults. Well… at least responsible enough to embrace a little self-care.
Recently, both Leonard and I enjoyed a mid-year break. Contrary to popular belief, we even spent it with our own families!
Leonard swept Libby away to a beautiful slice of paradise in Bali, where long days were spent swimming, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying leisurely dinners under the stars. There may also have been a rather wonderful chef involved, ensuring each day started with something delicious.
Meanwhile, I took a quick trip to Rome for our daughter’s wedding—a week filled with love, laughter, family and more than a few unforgettable memories. It was the first time our entire family had been together in one place for over two years, making it all the more special. There were also visits to a vineyard (or two), where we were welcomed like old friends by winemakers who support our favourite Sydney wine bar, Familia.
Running your own business is a labour of love. The reality is that small business owners often work long hours, skip days off and rarely take time for themselves. We do it because we genuinely love what we do and the wonderful people we get to share it with every day.
But lately, we've been taking inspiration from many of you.
We love hearing that your salon appointment is your "self-care day"—a little pocket of time that's just for you. Watching our clients prioritise themselves has reminded us that perhaps we should be doing the same.
And while we're talking about self-care, here's a little reminder from your friendly neighbourhood salon owners. If you ever need to move or cancel an appointment, giving us as much notice as possible really does help. Behind every booking is a small business and when an appointment sits empty, it can't always be filled. Every appointment helps keep the lights on, supports our wonderful team and every now and then, even contributes to the self-care fund too.
So we took a short pause, filled our cups back up and returned feeling refreshed, recharged and ready to welcome you back into our forever-evolving DMJ space.
We're incredibly grateful for your continued support, your loyalty and the trust you place in us. Whether you're coming in for a complete transformation or simply a trim and a chat, we're always delighted to see you.
Thank you for being part of our DMJ family. We can't wait to welcome you back into the chair soon.
