Be interesting - The Power of Hobbies and Interests
Have you ever found yourself stuck in the everyday routine-wake up, work, eat, sleep repeat? That’s where hobbies and interests come in. They’re more than just a way to pass time-they’re the fuel that feeds our souls, the colour in our otherwise black and white days.
Hobbies and interests are the essence of who we are. They bring out the parts of us that work, school or daily chores don’t always touch.Whether it’s painting, running or reading obscure fantasy novels, collecting vintage records or urban beekeeping-your interests shape your personality and give you stories worth telling.
For Leonard and I, creativity is our favourite kind of escape. We spend our days shaping and designing through hair - an artform in itself. But after hours , our creative worlds expand. You’ll find Leonard in the back garden - Loren Kramar drifting from the speaker and a paintbrush in his hand moving across the canvas with the rhythm of a Latin dancer. As for me I enjoy writing , literally. Calligraphy is my hobby and I am fast growing my collection of brushes, inks and paints that I use to explore the shapes and moods of letters. Traditional writing is also a love of mine—a longer journey, perhaps—but one I’m happy to wander, word by word. My music of choice-Vivaldi Four Seasons. Hobbies don’t need to be productive, profitable, or lead to some grand outcome—they can simply exist for their enjoyment. Whether you’re sketching (badly), learning a few words in a new language , or trying your hand at pottery, the experience itself is enough. It’s okay to do things just because they make you smile. Not everything has to be a side hustle or a stepping stone—sometimes, it’s enough just to enjoy.
My dad would say to me…..Jo , If you're not interested, be interesting.
